Monticello Parks offers variety of programs for April


Tuesday, April 9 Art in the Park is presented by Joy Bailey, who will be teaching the art of quilling. The featured art will be making quilled cherry tree blossoms at the Bluestem Nature Center from 6 – 8 p.m. The program is for adults and the cost is $5. Seating is limited, and registration is required by calling 574-583-3983 or online at montiparks. recdesk.com.

Thursday, April 11 Volcanoes and Earthquakes is for children in third through eighth grade. Explore the reasons why we have an “Exploding Earth” and create a few explosions yourself! The program begins at 6 p.m. at the Bluestem Nature Center. Please register by calling 574-583-3983 or online at montiparks. recdesk.com.

Friday, April 12 Library Storytime comes to Bluestem Nature Center, Friday at 10 a.m. for kids and families. The library does a great story time about the parks and outdoor animals. There is no need to register.

Tuesday, April 16 Come enjoy a fresh air hike! The Spring Hike on Tuesday begins at 7 p.m. at City Park and is for everyone. This is the second of our Fresh Air Hikes to encourage being outdoors and getting exercise. Registration is not required.

Saturday, April 20 Earth Day Celebration! Come to the Bluestem Nature Center on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day. Come learn how to “reduce, reuse, recycle.” There will be lots of information from the Monticello Library, scouts, Soil & Water Conservation District, the Garden Club and more. Before the afternoon festivities, come join Katie Smith for a birding hike beginning at 8 a.m. Meet at the Central Pavilion in City Park.

Wednesday, April 24 Art in the Park will be Watercolor on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m. at the Bluestem Nature Center. This program is for adults. Joy Bailey’s students have enjoyed using watercolors. Please register at 574- 583-3983 or online at montiparks.recdesk.com.

Saturday, April 27 The Birding in Spring hike begins at 8 a.m. in City Park, meet at Central Pavilion. Katie Smith will lead the group to lower City Park to find and identify spring birds. No need to register. Also on April 27, it is Get Out and Go Fest from 1 to 4 p.m. in Altherr Nature Park. This event brings children and families together within the community to raise awareness for child abuse prevention. It is sponsored by DCS.
