Three Cavaliers placed in the Sectional Top 20 at the Rensselaer meet Saturday. They are Maeven Hall (20th), Mackenzie Burns (11th) and Sophia Culp (7th).
Tri-County Varsity Cross Country teams ran in the Rensselaer Sectional on Saturday. The Rensselaer Sectional is made up of 14 teams total out of these 14 teams there are many tough teams with strong competitors. This sectional was one for the history books in dealing with weather and lightning delays. The official race times were 11:30 (EST) boys race and 12:15 girls race.
Taking precaution on Friday morning the race times were moved up 30 mins earlier now being 11 a.m. for boys, 11:45 a.m. for girls. Thirty minutes was not early enough delay for the storms unfortunately. With 20 minutes before the start of the boys race all athletes, coaches, and spectators were instructed to seek shelter. This was the start of a small storm moving through, but those small pop ups brought a lot of lightning and delayed the start of the race by an hour.
These small storms brought increased wind speeds and clouds but the sun found its way through making it warmer for the second weekend of October. After the lightning delay, the varsity boys had less than 15 minutes to warm up. All runners made it to the start line and, with a shot of the firing pistol, they finally began the Sectional race.

Cavs moving on to the regional meet at New Prairie High School are Joel Lehman, Luke Lehman, Levi Schambach and Tyler Burns.
Tri-County had seven boys race. As they approached the first mile of the race they were in a pack formation. As the race continued, TC was able to keep each other in sight.
The race progressed on and when the finish was in sight the Cavaliers ran strong finishes through the line. Tri-County boys team finished in 7th place with a score of 174. In Sectional, the top five teams move on as Regional Qualifiers, then the next 15 individuals on non-advancing teams will move on as Regional Qualifiers. Tri-County had four boys move on as individuals Joel Lehman (JR), Luke Lehman (SR), Levi Schambach (SR), and Tyler Burns (SR).
Varsity girls were to race at 11:35 a.m., with slight delay at the start line the girls were able to eventually start. This was another competitive race filled with many tough distance runners. The weather had not changed since the boys race, wind speeds and some warmth still were in the air.

This was another great team race for Tri-County Varsity Girls. The Cavaliers finished in second with a team score of 70 points and are Regional bound as a team. This is the third year in a row that Tri-County Varsity Girls have advanced to Regional as a team. Where they place and how many runners a competitor could pass at the finish played a vital role in confirming a ticket to Regional.
Tri-County had three runners earn “All Sectional” honors by placing in the top 20. Finishing 20th place in a time of 22:56 was Maeven Hall (SR), 11th place in 22:04 was Mackenzie Burns (FR) and TC’s top finisher in 7th place with a time of 21:36, Sophia Culp (JR). Tri-County will continue another week of running and travel up to New Prairie High School to run on the famous Snyder & Smith NPCC Course for the 2025 Regional.
