Summer benefit planned for children

The 10th Annual Autistic and Children with Special Needs Foundation Ride is set for June 10 at noon at the Whiskey & Wine Saloon in Monticello.

Registration for the event is set for 11 a.m. with kick stands up at noon. Cost is $20 per bike and $5 per rider.

Presbyterian Church announces Lenten Schedule

The Lenten program at First Presbyterian Church in Monticello has been planned to apply God’s mes sage to individuals’ lives. The series is titled “Annual Self Examination,” and each service will focus on the parts of the body that reflect these messages. There will be a carry-in dinner each Wednesday at 5:30 pm. The service will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

The topics are Hands and Feet, what are you doing, March 22; Diet, what are you consuming, March 29; Flexibility, how well do you move/bend, April 5.

The church is located at 104 N. Illinois St.

Chair exercise class offered at church

First Presbyterian Church of Monticello invites the community to a chair exercise class at the church, 104 N. Illinois St., on Tuesday and Thursdays from 10-11 a.m.

Legion open for dining

American Legion Post 81 located on East Washington Street in Monticello is open to the public on Thursday and Friday evenings. Dining hours are 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday and 5-7 p.m. on Friday.

The regular menu is available both nights with a special meal offered on Friday nights.

The specials for March are: March 17 – Corned Beef and Cabbage; March 24 – Baked Steak and March 31 – All You Can Eat Fish Fry.

Benefit planned for Bonnell

An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner benefit has been planned for Steve Bonnell. The event will take place on April 2, from 1-4 p.m. at Rugie’s Dugout on Sixth Street in Monticello.

The cost of the benefit is $15 for adults and $8 for children. Motorcyclists will pay $35 and will meet at noon for a ride past Bonnell’s house before the dinner. A cakewalk will be held between 2-3 p.m.

Bonnell is battling cancer.

Flea market, garage sale set for Legion

The annual flea market/ garage sale is all set for March 25, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at the American Legion Post #81 in Monticello.

Lunch will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Legions to have allyou can-eat fish fry

American Legion Post 81, Monticello, is hosting an all-you-can-eat fish fry on Friday, March 31, from 5-7 p.m. The dinner is open to the public.

The Post is located at 405 East Washington Street, right off of U.S. 24 at the east end of the Washington Street bridge.

The meal will consist of fish, French fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children aged 10 and under. Eat-in or carry-out is available.

All proceeds go to assist veterans, service personnel, and the various programs of the American Legion.

Benefit ride planned for veterans

Riding for Horses and Heroes, a benefit ride for veterans and Courage Rock will be held on July 22 at American Legion Post #81 in East Monticello.

Sign-up begins at 10 a.m. and kickstands are up at noon. The ride starts and ends at the Legion. The ride costs $20 for each bike and $5 for each passenger. Cars and trucks are welcome at $20 each.

The sponsor for the event is the Marine Corps League Michael Walters Detachment 1411.

Local agency looking for vendors, volunteers for event

The White County Department of Child Services is organizing a fair at the Altherr Nature Park to raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention for April 15. Times for the event will be determined later.

DCS would like to highlight providers, agencies and resources that work with youth and families. They would also include schools and other youth organizations to have booths and participate in a performance, such as a band, choir, etc., as well as food and activity vendors.
