Heart Fellowship to meet at church

The Heart Fellowship of the First Presbyterian Church, a group of seniors who enjoy worship, fellowship, and becoming more informed, will have their Monthly meeting from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the church, 104 N. Illinois St.

The program will conclude by 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend. For reservations, contact the church office at 574-583-5787 before noon on Monday, Aug. 8. A freewill offering may be given for the luncheon.

Free concert at Brookston Church

Badger Grove Community Baptist Church invites the community to a free concert on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m.

The Westward Road Concert The outdoor concert will be held on the church lawn, 11544 South 500 West, Brookston. The evening will feature worships music, songs of hope and encouragement. Admission is free.

A free-will offering will be received to help support the musical trio’s ministry.

There will be a few chairs available, however it is recommended that you bring your own chair to ensure a seat. In the case of inclement weather, the concert will be held inside the church building.

Blood Drive set for Aug. 9 at church

There will be a blood drive in the Meeting Room at Zion Bethel Family Church, 415 S. Third St., on Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Legion open for dining

The American Legion is open to the public on Thursday and Friday evenings. There is a special each night in addition to the regular menu.

The hours on Thursday night are 5:30-7:30 p.m., and Friday night hours are 5-7 p.m.

On Friday evenings the salad bar is also available from 5-7 p.m. The cost is $10 for all you can eat and $7 for one trip. One trip with a meal is $4.

Noodle dinner planned at Legion

The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 81, of Monticello is hosting a homemade noodle dinner on Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 5-7 p.m. at the American Legion Post located on East Washington Street, right off U.S. 24 at the east end of the Washington Street bridge.

The cost of dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and children under age 5 are free.

The meal consists of your choice of chicken or beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, side salad, roll (from Kinser’s Bakery), and dessert.

Monon Civic Preservation Society to meet

The Monon Civic Preservation Society will have its regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m., in the Civic Center.

Updates on the theater, grants, and future fundraisers will be discussed.

Everyone interested in preserving Monon’s history and heritage is welcome to attend.

Library plans storytime

The Monticello-Union Township Library is finishing the summer strong with activities for all ages.

Upcoming events:

S.T.E.M. Club – Aug. 9 at 3 p.m.: STEM Club invites kids grades K-5 to use their imagination and creativity to make unique creations out of cardboard, Littlebits, Legos, and more. The library encourages parents to bring your little engineers to this fun and educational program.

Dog Days of Summer Storytime – Aug. 11 at 10 a.m.: Join Miss Tammy and Mr. Duffers on the Patio for some messy educational fun and stories. Patrons will be making Oobleck and playing in sand and water.
