Linda B. McNeely

Linda B. McNeely, 71, of Monticello passed away at 4:07 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2022, at the Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette with her family at her side. She was born on Friday, May 11, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Joseph and Joan L. (Pidrman) Zeleny. On Sunday, October 7, 1973, in Downers Grove, Illinois, she married Roger E. McNeely; he passed away on Monday, April 25, 2005.

Linda grew up in Lisle, Illinois, and was a 1968 graduate of Lisle High School of Lisle, Illinois. She had lived in the Monticello area most all her life. Linda and her late husband, Roger, started their adult lives in retail, meeting in the Downers Grove, Illinois, Woolworth Store. After marriage, they opened the first Ben Franklin Dime Store in Walnut, Illinois. They then moved to Monticello where they owned and operated the downtown Ben Franklin Dime Store. Linda then went to work at the former K-Mart of Monticello for over 15 years.

She used to deliver the Monticello Herald Journal Newspaper of Monticello to all the newsstands and could be found out and about all over town in the wee early. morning hours. Linda was also known to routinely stop at Kinser’s Bakery of Monticello to have a hot cup of coffee after delivering her papers and then worked at Kinser’s for a period of time.

Surviving are two sons, Joshua “Josh” (wife Kimberley Belliveau) McNeely of Oxford, Nova Scotian, and Clayton “Clay” McNeely of Monticello; friend (adopted daughter), Angela Barry of Monticello; and one brother, Joseph “Jody” Zeleny, Jr. of Rushville, Illinois

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Joan L. (Pidrman) Zeleny, Sr, and husband Roger E. McNeely.

A Memorial Gathering of Family and Friends will from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Kinser’s Bakery, 215 N. Main Street, Monticello, Indiana, 47906.

Burial will be private for the family at the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery of rural Monticello.

Memorials may be given to the family. Envelopes will be available during the Memorial Gathering of Family and Friends at Kinser’s Bakery of Monticello or can be mailed to the Miller – Roscka Funeral Home, 6368 E. U.S. 24, Monticello, Indiana, 47960.
