Library kicks off summer of fun


The Monticello-Union Township Library has a calendar full of fun planned for summer.

Don’t miss these upcoming events:

Tots Learn 2 Make It: Pet Rocks – June 5, at 10 a.m.: Toddler Learn to Make It Club is designed especially for kids 2-4 years old. Every kid needs a pet rock to keep them company!

LEGO League – June 5, at 3:30 p.m.: Lego League is an event in which children can build from Lego pieces. Their project will be on display for one week and then the fun begins again.

Garden Club for Kids! – June 6, at 10 a.m.: During the summer the kids can help the library with its garden which is getting an upgrade this summer! Learn all about plants and even about animals! At harvest time, the kids get to take home what has grown!

S.T.E.M. Club Tuesday – June 6, at 3 p.m.: S.T.E.M Tuesday Club is a free play time for kids to explore and invent. The library has Bloxels, Dot & Dash Robots, LittleBits, Legos, cardboard building tools, and all the string, tape, and bobbles to create. The library has Lego Duplos and a Code-A-Pillar for the toddler set.

POP Club – June 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Behold, the Power of Produce aka POP Club will once again be at the Monticello Farmer’s Market on Tuesdays. The Farmer’s Market will provide produce, crafts, and more from THE BAYS (former fire station) this summer. The address is 120 W. Washington St.

Creative Writing Club – June 6, at 6 p.m.: Join the library in a collaborative workspace where members can write, share ideas, and provide feedback for each other’s work.

Bob Ross Style Painting Class – June 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Join the library for a chance to channel your inner Bob Ross and create your own unique 16×20 oil painting. The library will host a Bob Ross-style painting class with a certified Bob Ross instructor for participants to learn from a pro and have fun. The cost to attend the class is $25, which covers all materials and instruction from a certified Bob Ross instructor. The library will also provide refreshments during the class. Teresa Boucher will lead the class. Registration and payment can be made at the circulation desk. The deadline for registration is May 26.

Kids Learn 2 Make It Club: Smiley Face Pins – June 7, at 3 p.m.: The Learn to Make It Club for KIDS is a part of the library’s Summer Reading Programming and is especially for kids aged 5 through second grade. Learn to make fused beads pins.

Teen Craft: Zen Garden – June 7, at 5 a.m.: Get your Zen on with this teen craft! Participants will be crafting their very own Zen gardens to kick off Summer Reading.

Tots Story Club – June 8, at 10 a.m.: Summer Storytime is full of stories, songs, and activities. If the weather is nice, meet on the patio or in the program room.

Brown Bag Lunch: Norway Dam – June 8, at noon: Join the library for a lunch hour presentation on the Norway Dam. NIPSCO currently owns and operates two hydroelectric plants, located in White and Carroll counties, which provide electric power to customers across NIPSCO’s service area. The guest speakers will be Josh Russell and Karen McLean from NIPSCO. Bring your lunch and enjoy an informative program.

Tween Learn 2 Make It: Leather Cain Purse – June 8, at 3 p.m.: The Learn to Make It Club for Tweens is a part of the library’s Summer Reading Programming! For this event, participants will make a Pleather Coin Purse.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover – June 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Your favorite stuffed friend deserves a bit of a holiday, and the library has just the special event for them! A stuffed animal sleepover full of fun, food, and shenanigans.

Drop off your stuffie at the Children’s Desk to get your ID by 4 p.m. Breakfast and pick up with be the following morning at 10 a.m.

Stuffed Animal Breakfast – June 10, at 10 a.m.: Your Stuffed Animals have not only had a really fun time at their sleepover, but they have also spent part of the night preparing breakfast for you! Come to the program room to eat breakfast with your favorite stuffed friend.

S.T.E.M. Club Tuesday – June 10, at 3 p.m.: S.T.E.M Saturday Club is a free play time for kids to explore and invent.
