Karon Reinhold
Karon Dolores (Chaney) Reinhold passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, in Chatsworth, California, after a long journey with lung disease and dementia. Up until the end, Karon maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, faith, sense of humor, and love of family and friends.
Karon was born on August 23, 1946, in Louisville Kentucky, where she spent her childhood surrounded by a loving family, including her parents (James “Lloyd” and Lucille Chaney) and her siblings Sharon Casey (Jack), Jim Chaney, Suzy Ley, and Brad Chaney, as well as her grandparents, aunts and uncles, and many cousins. One of Karon’s fondest memories to recount was spending hours in their basement watching her “daddy” work on watches.
In 1965, Karon moved to Monticello, where she met her future husband, Marion “Doc” Reinhold. Karon helped Doc raise his two younger children, Glen and Jill, and later reconnected with his older son, Mike, and his wife Ruth. Karon and Doc had two children of their own, Martin and Melissa. Karon was very involved with volunteer activities in Monticello through Girl Scouts, the Presbyterian Church, and other organizations. After she and Doc divorced, Karon went back to school and obtained her master’s degree in Christian education from Union Presbyterian Seminary. Karon then followed her children to California, where she became a director of children’s ministries at St. Peter’s by the Sea, in Rancho Palos Verdes. Nothing was more important to Karon than her family, faith, and friends.
Karon is survived by her four siblings and their families and her five children and step-children and their families (including 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.) A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on May 4th at 4:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Granada Hills, California.
