1) Who are these three brothers?

Answer: These are the Dye Brothers, from left, Charles T., George D. and Edward R. Monticello’s Do It Center’s owner is Art Dragoo, who descends from the Dye family. Art’s grandmother was a Dye, and Art is part of the Dye legacy of being in the lumber business. These three brothers had lumber yards in Winamac, Francesville, Monon, Brookston, Wolcott and Lafayette.

 

 

2) The White County Rollerway (skating rink) in Monticello was owned and operated by Jack and Margie Puterbaugh. In what year did this start-up?

Answer: The Rollerway opened in the fall of 1958. Jack and Margie operated it until about 1969. The building had been the White County Hatchery building and was located on North Dewey Street. The hatchery was a poultry facility and also sold feed.

3) Oliver and Birdie Marquess operated a store in Yeoman around 1910. What kind of a store was this?

Answer: The Marquess family owned and operated a grocery and bakery in Yeoman. Later Oliver was a general work laborer and then bought land east of Patton and started farming.
