Recently there have been concerns regarding the possible presence of blue green algae in areas of Lake Shafer. Reports of a blue green coloration and film on the lake have been received locally as well as at the state level. At this time it is advisable to use precautions around areas of discoloration. Avoid boating or swimming in affected areas. Children and pets should especially avoid coming into contact with the water as they are more vulnerable to ingesting the water. Anyone coming into contact with the lake water should be sure to thoroughly shower with clean water and soap immediately following contact. Water should not be swallowed.
